Taking the first small step is how behavior change begins — whether you’re building a business, shifting habits, or deepening your focus as a leader
“That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
— Neil Armstrong, 1969
It’s been a while since my last post here on CEO for CEO: the Creative Entrepreneur Outlet for CEOs.
To be exact, my last entry was January 2021.
And here’s the beautiful synchronicity: that post was also about taking small steps.
Back then, I wrote about how to “plug into your dream,” and how starting small, step-by-step, inch-by-inch, can move you closer to your bigger vision. Here’s an example. This morning I didn’t have a plan, or an agenda, I didn’t review the next day the day before…shhhh don’t tell the millionaire mindset folks! And here’s what happened…I came up with this post! And all the pieces started to fall together, that’s what happens when you leave SPACE (S P A C E not unlike the one small step from Neil Armstrong) in your life and in a day.
Remember, just above, I said my last entry in January 2021 was about taking small steps? I talked about how 2020 had reshaped priorities and how the path forward began with one clear, grounded move.
Reading it now, the last post, it feels like a message from my past self.
Because, without realizing it, I’ve spent these last few years living what I wrote.
Doing the Work Behind the Work
I wasn’t away; I was doing the work.
Not just the external work of running a business or supporting others, but the inner work that shapes how we lead, connect, and create.
Since that last post, I became a PCC-trained coach through the International Coaching Federation (ICF), deepening my understanding of how sustainable change really happens.
My coaching practice has evolved into something more presence-based: rooted in awareness, reflection, and aligned action.
The kind of coaching I do now helps clients slow down just enough to hear what’s underneath the noise.
Because when we pause long enough to notice, the next right step becomes clear.
How Do You Start? Do One Thing. One Time.
People often come to coaching with the question,
“Where do I even begin?”
The answer is simple AND powerful.
You begin with one thing. One time.
That’s it.
Not a 10-step plan. Not perfection. Not clarity on everything.
Just a first focus.
In a coaching session we will find the ONE THING that FITS you to move FORWARD that FEELS right and DOABLE.
Because consistency follows focus, and focus begins with awareness.
That awareness, of what’s most needed, truest, or alive for you right now, is what turns a single step into sustained momentum.
Coaching helps you find that focus.
It’s a collaborative process that brings both clarity and accountability, helping you discern which step matters most and why.
Focus First on a First
Every big shift, every creative leap, every reinvention begins with one small, intentional action.
It’s the step that changes your orientation and opens the door to what’s next.
When Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon, the world changed. But for him, it was simply one foot following the other.
That’s how transformation happens:
Quietly. Consistently. Consciously.
So here I am, five years after starting “CEO for CEO” taking my own small step back into writing and back into sharing what I’ve been living and learning.
A Full Circle Moment
If you’d like to see where this began, revisit my last post:
👉 is 2021 vision clearer than 2020?
It’s amazing to see how the same truth still holds, that small steps, taken with intention, create real change. The difference now is that I bring a deeper lens of presence and coaching awareness to that process.
This post is both a continuation and a re-beginning.
A reminder that even after years away, momentum returns the same way it always starts…
one focused first.
Ready to Take Your First Step?
If you’re ready for change but not sure where to start, that’s where coaching comes in.
As a PCC-trained ICF coach, my work centers on helping leaders, entrepreneurs, and growth-minded individuals reconnect with focus, awareness, and intention.
It’s about doing the inner work that unlocks external results, one. step. at. a. time.
And because I can’t resist drawing parallels between life and my favorite fictional hospital (yes, I’m a Grey’s Anatomy nerd through and through), I had to laugh when I watched a recent episode (Season 22, Episode 3) AFTER writing this. It’s almost uncanny, but maybe not surprising, because when we’re tuned in, the messages we need have a way of finding us. One of the characters says:
“You don’t have to transform your life overnight; start small, put yourself first for once, and then find one tiny moment of joy.”
So here’s to doing the work.
To the micro-moments that add up to lasting change.
To choosing presence over performance, and joy over perfection.
If you’ve ever felt like you’re ready to come back to yourself, to reconnect with your energy, your vision, and your own inner rhythm, you are invited to…
🚀 Take your first step toward a strategy to explore what your “one thing” could be.
Pro Tip: You don’t have to see the whole path. You just have to focus first on a first, AWARENESS makes every next step clearer.
When you build systems that support your goals, you avoid burnout. Small actionable steps lead to discipline over time and success. Call/text Tao 732-775-1550 and talk to the PCC-ICF Trained Body-Mind Coach to start exploring what wellness coaching could look like and do for you!
